He was reminded a year or two ago at the Summer X Games when he crashed hard over a double jump. Ÿÿÿ Freestyle motocross is a dangerous sport, and Jeremy knew it. He single-handedlyÿ brought thousands of screaming fans to their feet, partly because of his skills on a motorcycle, but also because he was a showman. In the best whip contest at the conclusion of the event he started messing around and having fun with the crowd. I judged the X Games Mexico event and saw heightened confidence when he rode around in the rather tight venue. Ÿÿÿ Jeremy was having fun on a motorcycle these past six months and it showed. He cemented himself as the rider to beat in freestyle, and he put an exclamation point on his success a month later when he won the X Games Mexico event. Jeremy had one flawless run after another during that warm Los Angeles night. Ÿÿÿ The height of Jeremy’s success, at least in my eyes, came at the Summer X Games this past August. Unfortunately the heavens opened and rained out the head-to-head battle, but I bet that Dany Torres was more than happy to see the rain come just so he didn’t have to face the determined Lusk. Lusk said something to the fact that Torres was over hyped and that there wasn’t any way that he was going to lose. Ÿÿÿ I distinctly remember hearing Jeremy show his competitive side at Slane Castle in Ireland when he was about to face Spaniard Dany Torres. He didn’t wear his emotions on his jersey sleeves, but he did have tremendous heart and dedication to the sport that he loved. However, once I got to know him a little bit I learned that he was quite talkative and also wasn’t afraid to show that he was a bit of a comedian. The Metal Mulisha member had a quiet demeanor and, at least to me, seemed unapproachable (mostly due to his outward bull dog appearance). Ÿÿÿ I was fortunate enough to meet Jeremy and hang out with him a few years ago in Dublin, Ireland, for the Red Bull X-Fighters. Jeremy Lusk, one of the best freestyle motocross riders that I have ever been privileged to watch and judge, lost his life after crashing on a trick that many considered routine. Ÿÿÿ The motocross industry, and world in general, lost a very influential person and role model to children, all in the matter of a moment a week ago. The tires are made from a lightweight four-ply rated casing structure with reinforced sidewalls, and come in a new sticky rubber compound for high traction (this information was provided in a press release). The tread pattern is designed for hard pack slippery surfaces, and the dimpled knobs allow for quick tire warm-up and extra traction. Below are some of the new products entering the motocross market.ĭeveloped and tested in Arenacross and Supercross races, the tires have a low profile sidewall for improved cornering stability and traction. Although attendance and company turnout seemed down in comparison to recent years, companies we visited were upbeat and positive about business.
